A vigilant owner knows that a horse needs daily care and attention. A horse’s environment can affect its health just as much its diet does. If a horse stays in the stable a lot, then the hay and floor of the stable is bound to be filled with a lot of dirty elements. Make sure that you muck the bedding out every day, as much as possible. When you replace it with a new bedding, ensure that it is not infected with moulds. It must also not be damp and must not contain mildew. Most of all, check that there are no parasites. Parasites, aside from annoying the horse severely and causing disturbance, can weaken any animal. Also, make sure that you dispose of dung so that the stable will always be clean. Most of all, groom your horse and give it a bath regularly. Pamper it by giving it a soft brushing.

Feed your horse properly, too. Feeding it too much, as well as feeding it too little, can be bad for its health. Balance its meals by giving it fresh, raw vegetables and fruits. Give it lots of energy food, but never feed it right before letting it undergo strenuous exercise — for this, you must leave an interval of about three hours between the meal and the exercise routine. If you ever decide to make changes in its diet, introduce these changes gradually so as not to upset its stomach. Be aware, too, of what else grows in the field aside from grass. Some plants — like hemlock or nightshade — can be poisonous to eat.
