Horses are deemed past their prime years if they are 15 years and above. Many ranch owners encounter problems with what to do with their mature herd. Unlike younger animals that are fit for farm work or horse race, senior horses are likely to show degraded performance. Yet, they remain able to pursue their careers even at this point. Nevertheless, the amount of work should be balanced to its current ability. Have the horse do regular exercise so its muscles do not stiffen. Give it daily massages and stretches, too. Inquire a veterinarian as to the appropriate supplements it needs. Feed it the best food and have its teeth examined regularly. Continue to train the senior horse because it still has market value. It can be sold to first time owners since a well-trained and handled senior horse will prove to be a better option for them.
